2020 Volunteer Opportunities

Read Now

Excelsior Action Group always welcomes volunteers! Whether it's short-term, a one-time event or activity, a special project or as a long-term volunteer on one of our committees or joining our Board, we truly value you.  We have reconvened the monthly EAG Corridor Activation Program (CAP) * committee meetings where we have volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Our ongoing projects are EAG's Persia Triangle Town Square during the Excelsior Sunday Streets events,  Weeding & Cleaning days at both Kenny Alley and the Ever Upward Sculpture, a planned Hot Spot Survey project and the Community Corridor Clean Up.
* Formerly called the Vibrancy Committee

Commercial Vacancy Audit

The Excelsior Action Group is beginning to conduct a 2020 Commercial Vacancy Survey and we are looking for volunteers to help with surveying. The Commercial Vacancy Project is a way to identify buildings that are or appear to be long-standing empty buildings along the Excelsior, Outer Mission and Broad/Randolph commercial corridors. Empty buildings depress the vibrancy and economic health of the community and inviting needed business to operate in the neighborhood is a concern to EAG and its partners.  These surveys will help inform EAG of its business support work as well as provide current data on neighborhood vacancies.
EAG plans to address these concerns in a written report and a walk with city officials, the police department, and other agencies, calling on them for action.

Volunteer Task
  • Survey business facades to tally addresses that appear to have no active business operating in the space, note which facades have "For Lease" signs and which do not. Interview pedestrians, shoppers, residents and business owners along the Mission Street commercial corridor, from Trumbull to Templeton, along Geneva Avenue beginning at San Jose east to Carter Street at the Daly City Border, and along Broad Street from San Jose Avenue to 19th Avenue inquiring business information.
  • Collect up to 20 surveys per day

Each week volunteers will conduct surveys along the Mission Street commercial corridor, Geneva Avenue corridor and the Broad/Randolph corridor and gather data on active and vacant businesses. The goal is to  You will gather about 300 Surveys for the whole month of March.

Dates:  Fridays March 8, March

Time: 12pm-3pm (3 hour commitment)
