Clean Wash Center
Clean Wash Center is owned by John and Melissa Mendoza. The coin-op laundromat is located on 4690 Mission Street and has been in business for 14 years. The scope of work of this project included window treatments and exterior fluorescent lighting.
After contacting Melissa, she said that business during the summer is usually slower since school is not in session; however, she compared the monthly income from June 2011 and June 2012 and noticed that the income for June 2012 is higher than June 2011. Melissa claims the increase in income was because of the improvements and advertising done to the laundromat by EAG. She also said, “The exterior lights installed definitely made the place look a lot safer at night for our customers.” The owner also praised Nicole Agbayani, the corridor manager, in saying “we feel that she is dedicated to the project and to reaching the goal of helping the businesses in the neighborhood and improving its community” and agreed that working with EAG was a great experience. After speaking with Irene, the designer for Clean Wash Center, she took me through the entire process of the makeover. She first approached the task by getting to know what the owners of the laundromat envisioned for their storefront. Their main priority was to install better outdoor lighting to improve the safety of their customers at night. Irene felt that the large windows on the building had the most potential to convey the information. She substituted the triangular signage and flags with bubbles because it was more relevant to the business. "The bubbles were not only aesthetically pleasing and in theme with the idea of "fun", they were also able to convey important information about the services that the Clean Wash Center offers". Irene stated that the challenging part about this project was working with the business owners to create something that both parties liked. |
