The Persia Triangle is fondly known as the “heart of the Excelsior” as it is centrally-located site in the Excelsior neighborhood, formed by the intersection of Mission St, Ocean Ave, and Persia Ave. In collaboration with city agencies & local community-based organizations, the Excelsior Action Group continues its workt to activate, beautify, and make safer the Persia Triangle. Our goal is to transform this area from a hazardous and unattractive collection of crossroads into a beautiful hub of community engagement and civic vitality. The Excelsior Action Group (EAG) is partnering with the SF Planning Department – Pavement to Parks Program, Supervisor Ahsha Safai's office, RPD and several community-based organizations over the next few years to further design and implement projects that create a new public space in the heart of the neighborhood. Past Projects Kenny Alley Steps
The Kenny Alley Steps Beautification Project was a multi-phased effort to revitalize and beautify the Kenny Alley Stairs, a small, unaccepted passage located between a car lot and an apartment building between 4941 Mission Street and 4945 Mission Street providing passage up to London Street in San Francisco’s Excelsior District. The Kenny Lane Stairs, opened in December 1921, received no regular maintenance from the City. The stairs provide access to Safeway, local businesses and public transportation. Neighbors Summer Koide, Grace D'Anca, Mel Flores and the Excelsior Action Group, formed the Friends of Kenny Alley in 2015 to improve and beautify the Kenny Alley Steps to eliminate years of neglect and disrepair. This beautification project earned SF Beautiful's 2017 Award . Ever Upward Sculpture
Ever Upward is a one-of-a-kind sculpture that heralds the gateway to a bustling and diverse neighborhood of San Francisco, the Excelsior. The first sculpture in the neighborhood, Ever Upward was awarded San Francisco's Neighborhood Empowerment Network Award in 2013 for Best Community Challenge Grant Project. Excelsior Library Beautification ProjectIn 2013 the Excelsior Action Group's Beautification Committee, in partnership with Clean City Coalition, received a community challenge grant to beautify the San Francisco Public Library's Excelsior Branch.
Excelsior Extreme Makeover Program2013: The Excelsior Action Group is proud to announce the completion of the Excelsior Extreme Makeover facade improvement program to reduce blight and beautify Mission Street in the Excelsior! Funded by a generous grant from the San Francisco Office for Workforce Development, the program leveraged $36,000 in funding to improve 10 small business facades along Mission Street.

Since January 2013, the Excelsior Action Group has assisted local small businesses with outreach, education, and free inspections for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards and regulations. One goal of this work is to increase accessibility to businesses in the Excelsior commercial corridor for the entire community, including the large population of seniors living in District 11. EAG’s ADA Program also seeks to protect local small businesses from a rash of costly ADA lawsuits which have targeted vulnerable merchants across the City who are not fully compliant with ADA standards. The Excelsior Action Group is working to bring a community market to the “Heart of Excelsior”, at the Persia Triangle. Inspired by the success of other farmer’s markets around The City, the Excelsior Community Market seeks to provide a gathering place for healthy and affordable foods to be sold, and for local artists, micro-entrepreneurs, vendors, and community members to gather. Community Kiosk ProjectThe Excelsior Action Group has set out to refurbish and relocate the Chronicle Newsstand Kiosk at the intersection of Mission Street and Geneva Avenue in the Excelsior. Pending permits from the Department of Public Works, the kiosk will be redesigned and relocated to the Persia Triangle as part of the Persia Triangle Project. In addition, the kiosk will be made available for community use.
